Yet another Saturday wasted inside the flat. I'm such a geek :(
I am now the owner of one of these bikes (and a bunch of cycling gear!). A little strange that I of all people buy a bike just out of the blue, no? Well there was some thought put into it.
Reason #1: There has been some great weather lately. I don't for one second expect it to last but it feels great to be out in it. I'm going to try and cycle to work and back everyday which is only about 6-7km each way.
Reason #2: I need to get fit. I'm fat. It's that simple. I have issues with gyms. I've always thought of them as very.. artificial... very fake. To me a gym is like chicken cages and the outside is a free range farm. Getting fit should be fun, just like work should be. I'm not suggesting that everybody loves their job but you don't always get to choose that. You can choose how and where you get fit. I've been to gyms and I just haven't liked them. I'm excited about doing this cycling and I was never excited about going to the gym.
Reason #3: If all goes to plan I'll have an extra 30-45 mins sleep in the mornings. I usually wake around 7:15-7:30am. I'll wake up and leave at 8:00am and the cycle should only take around 45 mins. Then I'll need 10-15 mins to get a shower at work before I go to sit down at my desk.
Reason #4: I'll get to keep my evenings. Going to the gym meant that I would have to go straight from work and didn't get in 'till around 20:30. Now my exercise will be part of work.
So after thinking about it for a few hours on Friday I went round to the Edinburgh Bicycle Cooperative, which turned out to be only 30 seconds from my flat, and ordered the bike and bought all my gear. I just hope I stick with this.
For now I'm sat enjoying a big mug of black tea. Heaven. Oh saying that reminds me - new photos on flickr from last night. Took a short walk up a hill to get some sunset photos and views of Edinburgh. After that went to eat at David Bann vegetarian restaurant and only ordered a bottle of Rose and dessert. The food looked great though so I really want to go back soon.
